Welcome to your AMAZING empty nester life!
If you’re new to this, you may be thinking “What in the world could be amazing about being an empty nester?” You may be feeling lonely and even bored since the last child left the nest. That’s all about to change. I’ve been at this for a while now, and I can testify that the empty nester stage of life is one of the BEST times you’ll ever have! At least it has been for me. However, there is a caveat. Empty nester moms have to understand that this stage of life, like the ones before and after, is a JOURNEY. It represents a change in your lifestyle. You have the choice to either embrace the change or to reject the change and try to hang on to the past. It is up to you to make that choice.
Embrace the change!
This is an exciting time of life! Just think of all the things that you can now do for yourself and not feel one tiny bit of guilt about it. You can enrich your life by learning new things, traveling new places, and meeting new people! You will no longer be limited to doing what your kids are interested in doing (think no more high school sports to attend, no more dropping off and picking up). You can TRAVEL to places that YOU want to see when you want to go! You’re no longer limited to traveling during school breaks and summers! YAY!
You can LEARN new things! Think about something you’ve always wanted to do or learn that you never had time for when the kids were at home. Learn a new language…take an Italian or Cajun cooking class…go back to college and get that degree you always wanted. You can read about new places, different cultures, or just simply have time to read that gut wrenching novel you’ve been putting off.
And finally, you can CREATE a life that you want to live. You can take time to relax and reintroduce yourself to hobbies you had to let go of years earlier. Maybe curl up by the fireplace and knit. OR, you can use your new free time to indulge in adventures you’ve always wanted to take! Climb a mountain (or the Eiffel Tower)…train for a marathon…the choices are limitless!
You see, empty nester moms, this is the stage of life that it really can be ALL ABOUT YOU! So embrace the change! Depending on your personality and situation, there may be a bit of a learning curve for some of you. And others of you will jump right in, kick up your heels, and enjoy this change from the start. And the truth of the matter is, it is up to you how you choose to embrace this lifestyle change. And that’s ok! This is your life and now you can live it however you please. Because, that’s the whole point!
This is your time for Adventures Beyond the Nest, and I’m here to help guide you and answer any questions you have. I want to teach you how to love this stage of life as much as I do. That is what this blog is all about. We are in this together, girlfriend! I’ll start by teaching you one of the first Italian words I ever learned. When touring Rome with a group of high school students and their teachers, we had a young, energetic Italian guide. When it was time to move on to the next site, she explained that she would yell “ANDIAMO!” In English, that means LET’S GO! So let’s get this journey to your adventures started!
